Why Not Drink Bottled
Water?
Learn the
real facts of the bottled
water

industry and the
effects on our environment please read this article before
you buy any more bottled water.
The bottled water
industry is massive it would be very difficult to
estimate just how much bottled water is sold throughout
the world.
The sales of bottled
water are causing a major problem to our environment we
live in.
What most people are
not taking into consideration the amount of energy to
manufacture the plastic bottles is astounding. This is a
fact that to manufacture enough plastic bottles to supply
the US alone it is estimated to burn 18 million barrels
of oil each and every year! That is enough oil to fuel up
one hundred thousand cars for twelve
months.

The problem does not
stop there; the transportation costs to ship water all
over the world taking into
consideration the sheer weight
of the product again is frightening
figures.
Okay we have covered
the costs but what happens to all the used bottles? Some
are recycled for the folks that have consideration for
our environment, but in lots of cases these plastic
bottles are dumped in our land fill sites and adding to
our environmental problems.
According to recent
reports the bottled water industry has tripled over the
past 10 years with sales of 4 to 5 billion every year.
According to recent reports Italy are the largest
consumer of bottled water in western
Europe in 2003 they managed to consume more than ten
billion litres that’s more than a hundred and fifty
litres per person.

So why do we drink bottled water. I
believe because the water from the tap tastes disgusting and
so we turn to bottled water. I must admit that bottled water
does taste slightly better but at what
cost!
We are led to
believe that bottled water is better for our health than
water from the tap. The problem as I see it is the length
of time the water is stored in the plastic bottles and
what affect the plastic has on the water inside. The
natural resources Defence council have studied the
contamination level in bottled water and found around a
third of the water to be contaminated that’s a pretty
scary thought. Some organisations are discovering that
bottled water regulations are inadequate and need
investigating further as far as being safe for us to
drink. Another report stated that bottled water is no
safer to drink than water from tap
water.
I think
what most people don’t realise that bottled water costs
six to seven hundred percent more than tap water we must
ask ourselves the question is it really worth it when we
can not rely on it to be any better to drink than tap
water?
So what are the
alternatives to drinking bottled water? For many years I
have consumed water from a reverse osmosis
drinking water system
it is a fraction of the cost of
bottled water and you will love the taste and it helps
the environment plus it saves me loads of money because I
do not buy bottled water
